Applying grace (unmerited favor) is easiest with our children. It’s hardest with our “enemies.” Especially non-kin who disrespect us.

Jesus preached the message of grace thousands of years ago in a deeply religious and legalistic society:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor’ and ‘hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.”

It’s a more acceptable message now than it was then, at least in most modern societies. But it’s still not popular. This is still very much an “eye for an eye” world. Because an eye for an eye is so much easier.
