You’re Not That Special

Don’t think of yourself as special. Because that implies you’re more important than other people. You might have above average ability when it comes to certain things, but even those are gifts and part of a much larger story. Each of us is part of something much bigger than ourselves, and nobody accomplishes anything without the help of other people.

Studies have shown that most people believe they are above average at a variety of things, including driving and intelligence. That means a bunch of us are wrong—we’re overestimating ourselves. Don’t just imagine that other people are doing it. Consider that you might be doing it too and then try to figure out in what ways you’ve been doing it.
