What you imagine someone to be doesn’t count. Do you really know them? Only a lot of time, a lot of conversation, and some adversity will reveal to you who they are.
Not everyone is in your corner. Including those who are nice to you. Being nice can easily be faked. It tells you nothing about what the person really thinks of you, what their intentions are, or whether you can rely on them.
The sum of what they do (their actions) over time, is what will provide you with useful information about them.
