Following the path of least resistance is a good metaphor for writing, and incidentally, for life. My best writing happens when I don’t try to force it. But it’s necessary to make room for it to happen—it requires me to clear distractions and sit in silence for awhile.
It’s not about merely doing the easiest thing possible. It’s about making room for opportunities and recognizing them when they emerge. There may be some initial resistance to overcome—usually some sort of distraction, but once you’ve set those aside, things work better.
