Managing Human Suffering

Suffering is an inescapable part of life. Though it may never be eliminated entirely, we can strive to reduce it. That reduction is possible through the constructive application of science, the compassionate treatment of ourselves and others, and a mindful approach to how we perceive suffering.

We should aim to minimize unnecessary pain, while also learning to reframe the suffering that can’t be avoided, as an opportunity to appreciate what we have and to strengthen our character. In doing so, we lessen its sting and transform it into something meaningful.
