It’s better to lose friends and supporters for doing the right thing than for doing the wrong thing, because either way, you’ll lose a few. If doing the right thing drives them away, were they really your friends to begin with?

No matter what you do, someone will criticize you, so you might as well do the right thing anyway. When you choose what’s right, you can live with yourself, and the right people will respect you for it.

You could try to do what you think will make you popular, but that often attracts the wrong people. And any admiration they offer will be based on a version of you that isn’t real.
