“The System Is Broken”

Yes, maybe. But we create systems for a couple of reasons: 1) to help us overcome the threat that nature imposes on our survival and 2) to manage human behavior. In other words, to deal with the inherent problems of life.

It’s not always true that “the system is broken”, it’s that we believe there’s room for improvement. There’s always room for improvement, but it can never be perfect. And if it can never be perfect it will always seem broken.

When a system exists, it’s inevitable that people will blame it for the very problems it was created to fix. Or at least for not eliminating those problems entirely. Saying that the system is broken suggests that it was or should have been perfect in the first place. The systems we create can never be anywhere near perfect. The goal should be to make things better, not to expect perfection.
