Mindfulness makes us less dependant on things we don’t need. We think we need them precisely because we’re not mindful enough.
When you pay attention to how you spend your time, where every dollar of your income goes, each calorie you consume, etc., you begin to see the excesses.
Mindfulness is about paying attention to what’s happening in the moment. Including the awareness of what thoughts are arising in your mind and how they’re making you feel. You become more of an observer and less of a judge. You’re centered in the present, instead of dwelling on the past or projecting the future.
Thinking about the past and the future is important, but we tend to do it too much.
