What constitutes work is somewhat subjective.

When Joseph Campbell spent five years in a cabin reading book after book, he probably didn’t think of it as work, and nobody was paying him to do it.

But eventually he and those who learned from him benefitted from the knowledge he gained. He “followed his bliss” and that lead to opportunities that looked a lot like work, but were likely play to him.
