Being under-educated is no longer a legitimate excuse for most people. Education is virtually free now, and easily accessible.
It basically already was — you could just go to a library. But now we have the internet — the world’s most extensive and convenient encyclopedia. There’s more information available now than ever before and cheaper than ever before.
It wasn’t long ago that 80% of the global population was illiterate. Now it’s down to 20%, and one out of every two people has an encyclopedia in their pocket.
With some exceptions, being dumb is pretty much a choice now.
[Side note: It sounds crazy, and I wouldn’t have believed it a decade ago, but one day we’ll have the internet connected directly to our brains.]
