Trying To Be As Good As You’d Like To Be

Confront yourself with the truth of who you are. The good and the bad.

One of the realities of being human is that you’ll always struggle to be as good as you’d like to be. Even if you’re the world’s greatest parent, you’re still far from perfect and will hurt your kids sometimes.

Perfection is an elusive target. Perfection doesn’t exist in the natural world. And the way we imagine perfection in our mind is itself imperfect. Perfection is a longing—not something that can be manifest. It’s an ideal, produced by a longing for paradise.

You’ll try to do the right thing, but you won’t always succeed. You’ll fall short many times. But keep going. You’ll do plenty of good over time.
