Assuming the worst about people isn’t helpful. But neither is ignoring the negative side of human nature. Believe the best, but don’t ignore signals. Support the person, but not all their behaviors.

People are not inherently evil. But we do have needs and fears that affect our behavior. The best and worst of humanity exists within each of us. There are no pure saints and no pure sinners.
