Love Saves

The biblical idea of salvation, whether we believe it’s literally true or not, makes a lot of sense. That’s why it appeals to so many people.

It illustrates the fact that we’re flawed and that we can never be made perfect through our own efforts.

It highlights the fact that we’re prone to selfishness and that selfish pursuits can actually be self-destructive. That in order to save ourselves from our selves we need to surrender to a greater love than our own.

Love is not self-focused. It acknowledges the self and takes care of the self, but it doesn’t put self above everything and everyone.
