When someone wrongs you, be clear about your objectives afterward. Revenge shouldn’t be one of them. Leave your ego out of it.
Revenge is about inflicting damage on someone (physical, psychological, financial, etc.) in the belief that it will make us feel better. Sometimes we’re even willing to damage ourselves in the process.
Accountability is a more sensible objective. Accountability is about being compensated for a loss and prevention of further loss (for yourself and/or for other people who could be affected in the future).
Revenge won’t make you or the perpetrator better off. But accountability provides a decent chance for that to happen.
