Being Honest About Lying

Everyone lies. Some more than others.

We lie for two reasons: 1) to get what we want and 2) to prevent what we don’t want from happening. In other words, sometimes it’s about trying to get ahead and sometimes it’s about preservation.

It’s part of our nature to lie. And sometimes it’s necessary. Such as when protecting ourselves or someone from an injustice.

But sometimes we misuse it. Sometimes we lie in a way that is an injustice to someone else. And sometimes we do it to avoid being held accountable for something we should be held accountable for (to deter us from making the same mistake again), etc.

The intent is what matters. And knowing whether we’re doing it with the right intent starts with being ruthlessly honest with ourselves.
